finally had the chance to try it with a friend last night. both of us
were very impressed. i found it very dense and complex, but not
overpoweringly so... i have tried beers like this, and the strong
flavors, especially the sweet ones, felt like they trailed on for miles
and miles... your version felt more assured to me, as if it were willing
to balance a bunch of strong flavors rather than overwhelm with a
couple. i'd also comment on the liquid itself... it had a really nice
balance between a thicker stout and a lighter ale. that's pretty fun.
